Background of the Study
Strategic leadership is critical in aligning organizational goals with employee behavior, driving business growth, and improving overall performance. In retail firms, effective leadership is linked to enhanced employee productivity, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment (Abubakar & Mohammed, 2023). Niger State, with its growing retail sector, presents an ideal setting for studying how strategic leadership influences employee performance within this context.
Previous studies have highlighted that strategic leaders who exhibit strong communication, decision-making, and motivational skills tend to have more successful organizations. In retail firms, these qualities are essential in motivating employees to perform at their best, especially given the dynamic and competitive nature of the retail industry (Ahmed & Yusuff, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
While the importance of strategic leadership in enhancing organizational performance is well-documented, its specific impact on employee performance in retail firms in Niger State remains under-researched. There is a need to understand how leadership styles and strategies in the retail sector influence employee outcomes, such as productivity and engagement (Bello & Oladipo, 2023).
